Portland DBT's program

Portland DBT Eating Disorders Program: Path to Mindful EatingThe DBT Program for Eating Disorders is based on the research-supported DBT modifications of Dr. Christine Telch at Stanford University and Dr. Lucene Wisniewski of the Cleveland Center for Eating Disorders. The program lasts approximately six months and includes all the components of standard DBT. Other treatment components as listed under Services to Family and Friends and medication management are added as needed. Ancillary ED services include:
Body Image Group: Negative body image, i.e. disparaging, irrational and excessive thoughts and beliefs related to shape, weight, and other body concerns, has been described as a core problem underlying eating disorders. As these deeply rooted beliefs and values have been correlated with higher relapse rates, it becomes imperative that they are targeted in the treatment process. This 10-week psychoeducational group focuses on reducing negative judgments and excessive preoccupation associated with body image via a combination of mindfulness, exposure and cognitive interventions.
Nutrition Therapy: Both the American Psychiatric Association and the American Dietetic Association endorse nutrition counseling in the treatment of eating disorders for optimal care. In the DBT-ED Program, a registered dietitian is located on-site, allowing her to work closely with other members of the team toward goals of weight restoration, adequate food and fluid intake, meal planning, developing appropriate exercise habits, and overcoming challenges around food, body weight and shape concerns. In order to establish the relationship necessary to address these issues, clients can expect to be seen by the dietitian for an initial assessment followed by regular, one-to-one appointments.
Medical Evaluation/Management: Offered by affiliated medical providers.
