Small Steps to Living Life on Purpose

Step #1 – Stop
Stop what you’re doing right now. Make the choice to enter in.

Step #2 – Breathe
Take a deep breath in. Allow your chest and shoulders to rise. Let your stomach expand. As you breathe out, clear your mind, pushing your belly button toward your spine.

Step #3 – Make Peace
Take notice of what you have right now. I mean, are you sheltered? Is your stomach satisfied? Do you have clothes on your back? What do you really and truly lack right now – in this precise moment? I say, “precise,” because I don’t want you to think about what you’re afraid you won’t have tomorrow. I want you to gain a full understanding of what you have right now … and make peace with it. Accept that you’re here. Accept that you’re okay. Be at peace.

Step #4 – Listen
Now that you’ve cleared your mind, and you’re focused on what you have, listen to what your heart is longing for. This will likely take some practice. Personal relationships may come to mind. Priorities come into focus. Your heart will will not betray you. Keep listening.

Step #5 – Notice
Notice the difference between the things that were on your mind when you first sat down, and the things your heart was pointing you towards. What’s distracting you from your heart’s desire? What things are helpful vs. hurtful?

Step #6 – Move
Move in the direction of your heart’s desires. You will find that you’ll need to change your mind about what is important in your day. You may have convinced yourself that you “need” to do, or be, a certain thing in order to be satisfied. What has been revealed to you now? Take action.
